5-10 years ago I knew I was getting older but not old. The past few years my eyesight has gotten worse, causing me to give up some of my hobbies. I see my friends getting older too. 2 of my friends have died of late. My best friend, who I've known since 1975 has been going through radiation and chemo for throat cancer, and is down to 170lbs. His voice is shot and he looks weak and frail. My dad will be 90 next month and he is really looking old, and has knee problems and he just can't do stuff like he could. Monday I learned one of our work associates passed away on Sunday of cancer. I'm looking older too. Its really depressing. In my mind I can almost see that light at the end of the tunnel (which just might be death). Very depressing.

Actually, with your eyesight, scratch that.

Joking aside, it's very hard watching my parents age. They're not even "old," but watching my dad's physical limitations pile up makes me aware of my own mortality. I don't like the idea of ever losing my parents.

Losing a parent is a very traumatic event. I still miss my mom 6 years after she passed. I remember watching all my grandparents and my uncle get old and die. I HAD a fast car once. 1983 Rabbit GTI modified.

I'm so old I remember when the Dead Sea wasn't even sick! I remember when the Grand Canyon was a pothole! I renewed my driver's license last June, and caused a big commotion; nobody there had ever seen a real stone tablet! Last week I was standing in an antiques shop; somebody asked the clerk how much I cost! Tip the waiter; I'll be here all week!
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

1994 Z28. I traded it n on a 2000 Impala. I should have kept it since it was paid for.

My father died when I was 15 at the age of 45 from cirrhosis of the liver. That was 40 years ago come November. The Priest at our church decide to grow a beard last year. I lost it when a saw him beacause with it he resembled my father.

I started to try and grow a beard myself. I posted a pic in the "post a pic" thread with the Mrs and Taylor Dayne. It got me the "first Wednesday of the month senior discount" at Frys Food (not ready for) AARP keeps sending sign up letters.

Over the past three years, I've gotten a front-row seat to how old-age goes here, and it's not pretty. Both my mom and my father-in-law died within months of each other; mom via alzheimer's and FIL through simple old age. Neither was a pretty end. I'm probably older than most of you and, I have to tell you, I'm scared poop-less about getting any older.

As you get older, your world becomes reduced to ever smaller living spaces, until you're in a single room made-up to look a little home-like, but is actually the room you will die in.

One of the up-sides for them was having both Medicare and Medicaid there for them. Their last years would have been a whole lot uglier without them.

I fell on the ice back in December, and I've not felt put-together ever since, making me feel even older. Add to that some unknown gastro issues the docs can't figure out, and I'm not too positive about the future.

I am getting to the age where I cannot bounce back like I once did; late nights require naps; minor injuries take months to heal, joints are going. Another person in the "gastro issue doctors can't figure out" club. I can't juggle 10 things and keep them all straight.

My parents are healthier than my grandparents, and so have lived longer... they are role models for how to be retired and be active. Music, horses, pets, friends, kayaking, golf... all at nearing 80. But they too can no longer do everything they want. My dad just had shoulder surgery. Mom has a pacemaker.

I have my doubts that I'll see 50. Not sure I really mind so much.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

Eating well doesn't make you live any longer, it just feels that way.

I think having good genes, lack of stress in your life, exercise, and eating well all come into play for a long boring existence.

What a conversation... So, my grand parents were so old I never even knew them. Now, I'm 30 - the youngest one on the thread - and my parents are 70 80, role models, too, for great handling of age...

My parents are 86 and 84. My dad still drives from London to Spain on holiday each year and walks about 3 miles a day.

I have zero hope of achieving this

I'm going to be 70 this year, so I did. I've always wanted another VW Bug, as I've owned six of them during my younger days. My almost fatal motorcycle accident 2.5 years ago quashed any ideas of driving a stick shift car, so I bought a 1999 silver Corvette convertible in January. I had a Vette in my youth as well, but this one is an automatic. Can't wait until the weather warms up, here in MI.

I'm so old, when you look up the word in the dictionary, my picture is there! I'm so old, I was a beta tester for dirt!

I've also noticed the benefit of late afternoon naps. They're great for warming up to the 7 hour sleep.
