Here's some good news for those of us who ordered Ti SuperDrives. I called up Apple's SoHo store and asked when they would be receiving these elusive laptops. They told me on the 19th, which seems to be the date everyone is giving out, so that's really nothing new. However, what did interest me is he said that's also the date the _online_ orders will start to ship. He mentioned that the Apple stores would actually have them on that date, and that the online orders would only start to ship that date, which made perfect sense. This is definitely good news as it should greatly decrease the wait time most of us were expecting. I had a ship date of December 4th, so November 19th would be excellent. Feel free to call the Apple SoHo store to confirm, that's all I did.
Thanks,
David Gorman

So, basically you're telling us that those of us who ordered in advance may just have wasted our extra $15 for expedited shipping.

I guess I shouldn't complain though. Ordering over the phone/net can be easier than trudging from store to store, and it's better to get it the last week of November than the first week of December.

I still wonder what the hold up is though, considering some stores already have them.

The cause of the delay is most likely them just needed to ramp up production. They probably had a much smaller first run of them to get into stores as display unties, and the new batch due November 19th is the first large run.

Ya I figured, but the question is why they would have waited 2 weeks after the announcement before having a SuperDrive run. Supply of parts?

It's not really a big deal in the greater scheme of things tho.

My guess is that they literally got the SuperDrives working in the PowerBooks just a few weeks before the announcement, thus they didn't really have time to ramp things up prior to the announcement. This has definitely happened before, so is probably the most logical answer.
Thanks,
David Gorman

I don't want to sound harsh. but those who have chosen to pay taxes in Apple store and get combo drive over ordering superdrive from one of the online resellers (no taxes), paid more. That's weird...

I got mine for just a little over $2400 with the tax included through Apple Developer, so I couldn't change my order to a Superdrive. Biggest mistake I ever made, but I'll live

With developer and visa 2% cash back, my 1ghz/1gb/superdrive with applecare was 2861 including tax and faster delivery. 600+ dollars to have it 2 weeks early via apple store at lenox mall, hmm, ok NO.

Hmmm, is that insurance retroactive? Like if you don't have a job or have been fired within a six month time frame when you buy it, will they pay for the whole thing?

That would be awesome, but they stated that you need to be employed for 30 days from the date of purchase for it to work. It costs 85cents per $100 every month. you do the math.

Way to go Apple! I ordered the day they were announced and was given a 3-4 week ship time. The only thing I added to the base superdrive powerbook was additional ram ($40 doubled the ram to 1gz). I received the shipment notice this morning. Of course it'll probably be next week before it arrives but it shipped 2 weeks ahead of schedule. Nice!

What do you mean shipment notice? (sorry if this is a dumb question, but the excitement as to what it could mean has fried my brain instantly).

I've X'd out some stuff to protect the innocent (me). It's showing up on FedEx's tracking as having left TAOYUAN CITY TW. I chose the free shipping as often times Apple expedites shipping anyway. There are no estimates for delivery or indications as to whether or not shipping was expedited.

Dear Apple Customer,

The following products shipped on 11/14/2002. Transit time will
depend upon whether you have chosen standard or premium freight
options. If your order is shipping standard freight, it should arrive
within 2 - 5 business days of shipment.

My Powerbook also shipped yesterday. Apparently missed the Fed Ex pickup, but its in their hands as of now. I got the 1-2 day ship option, not sure when I can expect ot see it.

Anyway, quite cool. Anyone see the Macs Only review of the 867 mhz model? Seems it benchmarks at the level of a 667...

SmallDog (where I ordered mine) now lists the Superdive model available Nov 21, where it was previously listed as back ordered. Hopefully they will get mine a little earlier. At least its not a month away.

I called FedEx to get an estimated delivery date. My package arrived at the airport too late for shipment out of Taiwan this morning (their evening)so it'll be on the next plane which goes out tomorrow morning (1 flight a day apparently). It's labeled as a 3-day delivery so it should arrive at my door next Wednesday (I live in eastern Va). It would appear at this time that all powerbooks are being shipped in this manner regardless of what type of shipment was chosen (I chose the free ground shipment).

Delivery date is highly dependent upon customs of course.

Hey...

I ordered mine at 8:32 PST Wed morning, but my Apple email with the order number says it was confirmed at 9:23 PST. So, hopefully I will see mine soon. Any more shippments made to anyone? If so, what time does your confirmation email say?

-Brian

P.S.: Perhaps the fact that freebird's was ordered through the gov't store has something to do with her early shipment?

Yeah, they really need to update that picture! They haven't assembled computers that look like that in 4 years!

The apple store in Detroit said that they've already gotten two in and they went to the first people on the list. Why oh why couldn't it have been me? They said I could come in a pick up an 887 if I can't wait! Yeah, right!

Actually, the stores didn't get any 1GHz as demos, only 867s. Some stores, though, did get 3 or 4 Superdrive Gigs on monday or so, which all disappeared quite quickly.

Mine is on that same plane (left 11/15). It missed last night's flight and there's only one flight per day. Still FedEx says they have three business days and they're projecting delivery on Wednesday.

Well, mine has NOT shipped - still "Being Assembled".

I ordered mine Nov. 6 around 11 am PST, which is afternoon EST.

And given that it's now early, early am on Saturday in Taipei, I don't expect to see my TiBook until maybe the end of next week if I'm lucky.

The anticipation is growing. It wasn't such a big deal waiting... until I found out the new SuperDrive seems to be a Panasonic DVD-Multi drive, which can burn to DVD-R, DVD-RW, and DVD-RAM. See this thread.

I hear ya, Eug, I hear ya. I ordered mine at just about the exact same time.
Man, I work seven days a week, is it too much to ask someone to go and put my Ti on a freakin' plane? Sheesh.

Man, I work seven days a week, is it too much to ask someone to go and put my Ti on a freakin' plane? Sheesh.
I know how it feels but they have to put your 'book together first...

Ah, but it's been in the "Being Assembled" phase for weeks and weeks on end already. Well, a little more than a week, but you know how it goes.

For those of you lucky people who have already gotten the new Ti SuperDrive: Can a couple of you confirm in the Apple System Profiler that you got the Matshita UJ-815 DVD-R burner, and post your confirmation in this thread?

I'm not sure if there is only one model of SuperDrive, ie. the one that Karim has, or if there are multiple models of the SuperDrive.

Yea, I will IF I get my Superdrive model tomorrow. If not tomorrow, then Monday. FedEx has it leaving Alaska. I believe mine is probably in the first Superdrive shipment leaving Taiwan (ordered 1 minute after apple store came online on that Wed).

Ordered mine at 6:06 am PST and still not shipped. The news in this thread sounds positive! Too bad I will be on a business trip ALL week

Oh, well congrats to all those whose PBs are shipping!
