(Firefox on other platforms out of choice; Safari sometimes on the Mac, Lynx if I can't be bothered to switch out of Terminal, and wget/more if I can't be bothered to use Lynx!)

EDIT, actually I remembered why I keep explorer around ! it has the ability to save entire web sites (images and all) into some propietary file format (WAFF) ...

although omniweb has some nice eyecandy i can't live without my extensions in firefox.

Omniweb. You should have dropped IE. Essentially no one who would post on a Mac forum uses it anymore. Check out the results at the arsTechnica poll:

57% Safari
19% Mozilla or Firefox
14% Omniweb
8% Camino
2% Something else

I think Opera had more users than IE Mac.

To briefly answer your question - those of us that have paid for an Omniweb license find its extra features and polish worth the price. These things include: workspaces, omniweb tabs, shortcuts, per-site preferences, etc..

Try out the free demo if you're curious; If you don't think it's worth it, you don't have to buy a license.

Love OW, but now mostly use FF primarily because:

a) Stablity. OW, just isn't. And it gets slow. It's beautiful and well appointed, but ust not reliable. Not a '70's Jag, but close.

b) Adoption rate. I use it for standards and compatibility checking so much.

c) The Extensions are tops. Color spotting, Sage (great RSS Module) and Scrapbook.

I do miss the OW 'tabs' and form spell check though.

Agreed. I use Safari. Firefox is my backup. I'll keep trying Omniweb every so often.

Am I missing something? I find that Netscape is the most solid browser. Safari (aka beachball) has become SOOOoooo Sloooow that it's truly not worth bothering with.

Another vote for OmniWeb
I use OW 5.1 for daily browsing. For a few webpages OW can't display properly and also when I feel like saving the webpage, I use Camino. Safari and Firefox occasionally, IE for webpages written exclusively for IE.
Despite a few annoying bugs and a bit slowness, I love OW because of its powerful features, especially fully sortable and drag-and-droppable graphical tabs, Workspaces, ad blockers and fully-indexed history searching.

IMHO developers doing a good job should be rewarded, and OW developers well deserve it. They're very friendly and responsive people, and they sure know what they should do. Besides, as an upgrade user from 4.1, the upgrade fee of $9.95 is nearly free for me, considering many new goodies added from 5.x.

Registered user of Omniweb 5.1 - love the tabs, shortcuts and expandable text areas.

I'd be more apt to use Firefox, especially with the web developer extension...but there's a lame incompatibility between Firefox and Codetek Virtual Desktop that makes the menu items disappear and text boxes and address bar unusable. I'm way more attached to Codetek than Firefox, so OW it is.

Safari was my default browser for quite a while but FireFox's responsiveness won me over.

It still has a few bugs like if I have the download window open and then close the main browser window, I can't open a new browser window because the menu bar is disabled. (Grrrrr).

If only Safari would be more responsive like FireFox. I usually have to wait for Safari to finish downloading a page before entering text into a field and clicking the associated button.

Try this:
Go to Amazon's home page in Safari. When Safari draws the section to search for products, type text into the search field. You still can't click the search button until the entire page is drawn.

In Firefox, the page doesn't need to be completely rendered, I can quickly type into the search field and then click the search button.

Or maybe I'm missing a function in Safari somewhere?

I like Firefox's ability to start rendering a page and then filling the images as it downloads.

It's great when I have to resort to my dialup connection when I'm on the road.

For dialups, FireFox. For broadband, Safari or FireFox.

As I'm sure you've seen posted elsewhere - this is not normal for OW. I think I've had it crash once or twice since 5.1 was released. If you're having that sort of stability problem, its likely something unique to your set up, and/or something about the places you browse to that renders OW particularly unstable. In either case, you should definitely send those crash reports into Omni, so they can fix what they're able to from their position.
