Hello everyone. My dad is buying a computer for my mom, and is hesitating between a used Powerbook titanium 1 Gig and a new 14 inch iBook 1.2 Gig. The price of the Powerbook will probably be around 1300, and the iBook will be 1750 after buying all the essentials. The specs seem quite similar. What should he do? Thanks for the help.

Depends on the source. If the Powerbook is from eBay and the ibook is from Apple I would go for the iBook. You could hit up the Refurb site at Apple. That might get the cost closer together. If you have the cash I would go for the iBook. It's a great machine.

Good luck..

If a SuperDrive is an "essential" I'd suggest the iBook. The SD is faster in the iBook and it's also got a slightly faster processor with a nicer video card. The iBook also has an AP Extreme card built-in as opposed to the Powerbook's older AP card. You also know you'll have a year warranty from the start with the iBook and the possibility of two more years with AppleCare. If you bought AC for the Powerbook you'd be halfway through your coverage already.
