I'm wanting to increase my collection on Kung Fu films, so I'm interested in seeing what everyone here regards as their favorite one (please limit them to 1-2 titles, and no Jean-Claude van Dam).

I'll start.

Iron Monkey (unique fight scenes, not dubbed! and also stars Donnie Yen)

I haven't seen that many, but if you might like this video by the Chemical Brothers. It's very well done ... good music and great sync.

I gotta go with the Dragon. The chinese connection is great, as is The Return of the Dragon. Fist of legend is also good (Jet Li's remake of the Chinese Connection).

I also like the early Jackie Chan movies.. druken master and fearless hyena.

oh - and Shaolin monks.. THAT's an OLD flick.. remeber that as a kid...

I'll give another thumbs up for Iron Monkey and the Legend of Drunken Master.

Some others in no particular order:
1. Once Upon a Time in China
2. Kiss of the Dragon (badass fight scenes when Jet Li enters the police station at the end)
3. Mystery of Chessboxing
4. Shaolin vs. Wu Tang
5. Five Deadly Venoms
6. Hero

Also, I haven't seen it yet, but I always read good reviews about the Bride with White Hair.

Maybe they're not exactly Kung Fu, but close to the genre:

Zatoichi the blind swordsman (pre 2003 series), and the Seven Samurai.

Iron Monkey was great, and the fight scenes in Kiss of the Dragon were quite impressive, the soundtrack fit right with it too.

Here's my list

Of course Enter the Dragon - It's a Classic and Popularized the entire Genre and probably one of the greatest Martial Arts Movies of all time.

Once upon a time in China, Fong Sai yuk, Pretty Much ANY Jet Li Film.

Early Jackie Chan films - The ones he did in Hong Kong

Drunken Master is another Classic Jackie Chan film as well.

Pretty much anything NOT starring Steven Segal and Van Damme
"Evil is Powerless If the Good are Unafraid." -Ronald Reagan

House of Flying Daggers was pretty good.

Did anyone notice in Under Seige 2, that Segal didn't get hurt except hurting himself in the entire movie?

Just go to the Kung Fu section and look for anything with Bruce Lee, Sonny Chiba, Jet Li, or pre-96 Jackie Chan. Or anything that looks really cheesy and fun.

Ong-Bak The Thai Warrior
Duel to the Death
The New Legend of Shaolin
Once Upon a Time in China I, II, and III (they have a boxed set with all 6)
Born to Defense
Fist of Legend (still my most watched and all time favorite Kung Fu movie ever!)
Fists of Fury
The Chinese Connection
Yojimbo
The Hidden Fortress
Seven Samurai
Hero
Warriors of Heaven and Earth
Black Mask
Meltdown
Contract Killer
The Legend and TL2
Twin Warriors
The Defender
The Enforcer
Fearless Master
10 Tigers of Shaolin
5 Elements Kung Fu
Unleashed
Romeo Must Die
The One
Shaolin Soccer (In the spirit of Kung Fu Hustle)

I'm getting Fearless as a gift on HD DVD soon. Hope it's good.

I'm tempted to get Enter the Dragon on HD DVD too, but I've seen it a zillion times.

I enjoyed Fearless. Considering that it's Jet Li's last movie of this style, I was hoping for a few more fight scenes - but the scenes that are in the movie are pretty impressive.

I was a tad underwhelmed, but I think the fact that i screwed up and watched the English dubbed version ruined a lot of the movie's character.

Thank you so much. I haven't had internet for almost a year and didn't know this movie had come out already! Had to run straight to the store and buy it.

Same with a lot of movies. If you can get them in original Chinese, it's even better. For some reason, it seems whenever they redo subtitles, it's hit or miss whether the new translation is better. If your city has a Chinatown, go look for the originals from Hong Kong. My brother got me Hero on DVD in San Francisco over a year before it came out in theaters here.

I also saw the dubbed version of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and I did not like the dubbing. It just makes the movie seem a bit lame or fake...I'd much rather read what they're saying and hear the voice and emotion of the real actor.

Agreed, It's like Watching Anime in English. Not the same.

I always try to watch the movies in the original Chinese if I can unless I'm just too tired and will suffer through the English translation.

While in Hong Kong I bought "The Big Boss" AKA The Chinese Conenction, "way of the Dragon" AKA Return of the Dragon and "The Chinese Connection" AKA Fist of Fury in their Original Cantonese. They are SOOO Much better than than the version released in America. I also got the Version of Enter the Dragon released in Hong Kong. It has a few scenes that were cut in the US release.

That I can live with, if only because you're not seeing 1/2 the original performance on the actors face.

That said, for a purist I can understand the appeal. American voice acting in a lot of anime is downright campy.

True It's not that bad in English it's just some of the Voices they use.
