Hey guys, thinking of buying a powermac sometime in the future. I currently have a PC desktop (custom built) using Corsair PC3200 RAM Cas2.5. Can I swap this into a powermac to save on costs? Has anyone been successful in this type of RAM switching?

The Power Mac uses DDR 3200, so yes, it should work, as long as your Corsair RAM is non-EEC.

I'm not entirely sure on this, but I believe the G5 uses dual-channel DDR memory, meaning you have to use two matching sticks that are dual-channel compatible.

Does anyone else know?

According to Apple's website, under Tech Specs for the PowerMac G5:

Support for the following DIMMs (in pairs):
128MB DIMMs (64-bit-wide, 128- or 256-Mbit)
256MB DIMMs (64-bit-wide, 128- or 256-Mbit)
512MB DIMMs (64-bit-wide, 256-Mbit)
1GB DIMMs (64-bit-wide, 256-Mbit)

So I'd say it's safe to say you must install in pairs.

yes, it has to be installed in pairs.. and works great. I have a 1GB kit of OCZ DDR ram in my Powermac with no troubles that I removed from my PC.

I don't think the ram itself is dual channel. The memory controller is. Each ram stick is on its own "channel", hence the dual channel, hence the requirement of matched pairs.

In other words, DDR is DDR, PC3200 is PC3200. There is no Dual Channel RAM.
