It's no different than if you had a superdrive. You just have to be able to read a DVD in order to rip it (using a program such as Mac the Ripper). Of course you can't burn a DVD with a superdrive. What do you want to rip a DVD for?

sorry about the over usage of HowHowHowHow....my mac froze for a sec.

Ok well thanks for that..I will DL mac the ripper.

So when i rip a dvd, i can basically just watch it whenever right?

Pretty much, but of course DVDs take up a lot of disk space (4-8GB in general).

That is where Handbrake comes into play.

Yes indeed. If you just want to watch them on your laptop, I would suggest skipping Mac the Ripper and just using Handbrake to convert the DVD to MPEG4 or h.264 video files. You can then just play them in Quicktime Player or iTunes.

But can i still use handbrake to rip the dvd onto my mac?

Yes, it rips directly to MPEG4 or h.264 format, while Mac the Ripper is basically a tool for copying the contents of a DVD to your hard disk while removing the copy protection.
