What search field?

I can only assume that you're talking about Safari, and not spotlight, Mail, the Finder, iPhoto, iTunes, or any of the thousands of other apps that include a search field?

Generally, the toolbar is configured from the View menu. Select that command. Drag whatever elements you wish to have on the toolbar directly to where you want them.

This should work in any application with a window toolbar.
