WB has released the first picture of Henry Cavill as Superman. It looks like the new suit will do without the red trunks. I hope this movie kicks ass. We haven't had a good Superman movie since 1980.

The cast so far:
Superman/Clark Kent - Henry Cavill
Jonathan Kent - Kevin Costner
Martha Kent - Diane Lane (hey now!)
Jor-El - Russel Crowe
Lara - Julia Orman
Lois Lane - Amy Adams
Zod - Michael Shannon
Perry White - Lawrence Fishburne (No really, I'm not joking)

I'm hoping it's good, but I'm a little concerned given the fact that Zack Snyder is at the helm. That guy is all about slow-mo special FX (kidding a bit, but you know what I mean). It's also a bit annoying that General Zod is once again the villain. I was hoping for Brainiac or something interesting. You can only deal with so much Lex Luthor and Zod...

I've always thought of capes as death traps. they could get stuck in doors, or suck you into an escalator, or even get caught in a plane's turbine.

Yeah I thought (for a few seconds anyway) that this was about a new incarnation of Rickey too.

The last Superman anything I was starred George Reeves (!).

Is this a second reboot in a few years, or is it a sequel to the last reboot?

Second reboot. They were disappointed in how the Bryan Singer one did so they're just starting over, again.

Singer's film wasn't a reboot, it was a continuation following Superman 2, basically discarding 3 and 4. Lois was pregnant from their brief fling while Clark was human.

Frankly, I think they should have made another with the same Superman Returns cast, which was pretty good. We just need a super villain.

But some people didn't like Superman having a son, so a reboot we get. Even though they could easily have killed him a Superman Returns sequel, which could have been a good story element. Hell, I told friends I'd like to see a story where the spirit of Zod possessed the kid, and he suffered a rapid growth like Spock, but whatever, no one pays me to make movies.

Anyways, the new Superman costume looks good, and Cavill looks good wearing it. And I'm not sure if the red shorts are there or not. Frankly, I don't think getting rid of the shorts is important. The new Superman costume in the upcoming DC comics reboot lacks the shorts, and I don't think it improves anything.

Well, it's not like he has shark repellant or a magic lasso to store in a super fanny pack.

Looks ok to me, but I'm hesitant about all these rebooting reboots.

I don't have the balls to make any predictions on the Spiderman and Superman reboots. SInce I never heard any buzz about Singer's Superman, though, I'm pessimistic.

I enjoyed the shit outta Superman Returns, I was actually surprised to hear it was never received well.

Reboots. Getting kinda sick of them. Let's hope Henry Cavill doesn't do a growling narration over another ominous score from Hans Zimmer.

In filming Christopher Reeves' Superman, the costumers learned that even with the trunks, something extra was needed for...subtlety. They introduced what they called a "super jock" which helped to reduce the amount of exposure of certain "appendages of steel." From these stills, it looks like Cavill needs such a costume accessory.

Yeah... because penises are so unnatural.

That said, I'm not thrilled with the suit. It at least needs a belt.

The picture is wrong on so many levels, partly thanks to the quality. It looks like a couple of people filming in a high school parking lot.

Anyway, maybe they'll give him some CG underwear.

Quite natural, but I don't want to see them clearly outlined in clothing, nor do I want to see camel toe or women splashing around without a bra in thin shirts. If my wife says my jeans lean on the too-revealing side, I toss them in the trash.

To expect Superman to come away with the coveted PG-13 summer blockbuster rating, they're gonna need to hide the junk a bit more.

I now officially hate the costume. Sorry but I do. I'll just have to learn to live with the fact that the traditional Superman costume is dead.

I was thinking it reminded me of the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man suit, actually, mostly because of the "textured" look.

Well, it kinda looks more comic-like, because you can see muscle outlines. And everything else.

I kinda dig the texture, but a belt would have been better than whatever that is. Maybe that's a Kryptonian suit? I know it's much better than the Kyptonian suits in Superman the Movie.

So what you're saying is, you guys would prefer it if Superman was a ken doll? He's wearing a skin tight suit, of course there's gonna be a bulge.

Form-fitting suit without a bulge that looks like you stuffed a potato down your pants? It can be done. We have the technology.

I for one am very glad they're making a film about this "Superman" character, because I have no idea about any of the storyline associated with him.

Oh, and they should stop minding about with the suit on that short fella and give him a proper Derek Smalls job in the underwear department.

I just hope it's not too much of a retread of Superman I, given the same villain(s) and such. I'm still waiting for a Lobo/Brainiac film...

Apparently, they decided to drop the movie about Superman and make a Wolverine film.

There must be some sort of weird bulges in the suit, because even a skin tight suit doesn't show that much tissue/muscle. Think of the most ripped person ever wearing spandex, and they still won't look like that dude in the superman outfit. I'm guessing it has added thicknes ropes or something on the edges of muscles to help define things.
