Hey, take a look at this picture and tell me why the largest unused block is not the RAM vlaue minus all the open apps?

Memory fragmentation, poor memory management, other hidden processes.
That mainly sums it up...
Get MacArmyKnife to list all processes...
And theres another app that will tell you about the memory fragmentation...
I'll get the name of that one when I can.

There are a few steps you can take and that is to par down some extensions as well as minute things like extensions that are unecessary or redundent. You can find books about the Mac and your OS to see what actually goes on under the hood, otherwise or in addition to you can refer to the thread. I noticed yo have alot of ram allocated to Flash 5, but unless you are working on grapic intensive sights I would par it down a bit (who knows?).
Yet, to my dissappointment the only solution that is beneficial as well as significant is to buy more RAM! I just upgraded to 640mb of physical ram and not only is my machine and apps running faster, I can be more productive instead of freeing memory. One last note. There is an application called "File Buddy" that is a usefull utility, but what it can do is restart your finder instead of rebooting and free up some ram. Great for those projects due yesterday and no time to keep rebooting and quiting and restarting apps for memory.

Finder Quitter is a handy little piece of freeware that quits and restarts the finder for you. Doing so can free up RAM (largest unused block) if some background process has fragmented it.

That other app I mentioned was Memory Mapper.
I'd link to it but can't get onto VersionTracker 
BTW Jeronimo, is that a theme you're running? If so what one is it?

Hey Cipher, what you mean with theme? I haven't tryied enought, but until now, FinderQuitter is working fine.

Don't blame VM, your memory is far more fragmented without VM...

I'm sorry for blaming my VM for the fragmentation 
I'm using FinderQuitter and it's working fine, it's freeing some RAM every time I use it.
