I get more spam calls lately, and blocking or putting them on donotcall.gov is futile whackamole.

the new trick, is that somehow blocked numbers are still able to leave voice mail. My provider does not have visual voice mail so I have to go thru the rigamarole of calling in to hear the "you qualify" spiel.

What apps aren't complete spam in themselves? nomorobo? Numbo? They all seem to be subscription services. Any worth it?

I have no solution, but by accident, I discovered an almost sure fire way to identify spam calls.

Recently, most spam calls have switched to using a local area code.
Luckily, i got an area code way back that hardly any of my acquaintances use.
Those that do, I have in my address book.

So, now I can safely ignore any unknown calls coming in with my “local” area code.

F$&@ you, spammers.

I have just installed YouMail. Not sure if it's stealing my identity but it gets the voicemail, transcribes it, so at least I have visual voice mail again... let's see if it stops the spam.

I’ve noticed that, too. That’s kind of creepy. Luckily, we moved out of the area code on my phone, and I only have three people in the old area code who ever call, so it’s easy to screen. I get spam using my current area code, though.

I don't get that many spam calls, but I've noticed almost all are spoofing my area code.
I'm sure not giving any contributions to groups that start by lying to me about where they're from.

Don't wander this way much anymore, good to see familiar names...

Getting tons of this the past year or so as well. Don’t give out my cell # so I can only assume they just autodial every possible number now. No wonder there are over 5 billion robocalls a month.

Yeah, it’s gotten f$&@ing ridiculous.

If I don’t know the caller, and it comes from “my” area code, I send it straight to voicemail.

I don't even want them in my voice mail. So far today, the app has blocked a "health insurance scam." No fake voice mails all weekend.

Win.
