Finally got around to updating to 10.6 and, for the most part, everything went well and everything works... except my icons. They're gone! All's I can see is the name and a faint outline of where the icon used to be. Anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks,

Lee

Try applying the 10.6.5 combo updater: Mac OS X v10.6.5 Update (Combo)

Wait, I just read your specs, you have a G5 and 10.6 is supposed to run only on Intel chips. Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard - Technical Specifications so I'm surprised that it even installed itself, let alone that it is working, apart from the icon issue.

I did the 10.6.5 combo install, jm. That didn't help. Thanks anyway.

PS - I have an Intel Mac. I just never updated my specs after getting it.

Hi,

When you say all your icons have disappeared - do you mean all of them, or some of them? I think in Snow Leopard that they stopped including support for applications that were built for versions of Mac OS prior to OS X (the classic mode as it was called) - so if you had old applications, they would no longer work properly.

Just a thought

Cold,
I do use OnyX just before I back up each week. I have never seen anything about cleaning out my cashes except on the internet cleanup option. Where are the rest located?

Mark,
They're all gone. Footnote; about 2 hours ago I had to do a restart after installing an update. When it finished they were all back... for awhile. They are all gone again!

under cleaning or automation tabs, system and user caches.

make sure you're using the latest version.

Thanks all. I did everything you suggested and all of a sudden they are not going away anymore so it worked.
