Anybody want to talk about Google's new mobile device OS?
Here is a demo:
YouTube - Android Demo
I think they are being very smart in trying to attract developers and making Android a far more open platform than the iPhone. Apple has some time to correct this, but something tells me they won't go as far as Google plans to.
What is also interesting is that in regards to the rumors that have been going on for years about Google developing their own OS, it seems clear that they are committed to developing for Linux (Android is Linux based).

I like the screenshots I've seen and the 'philosophy' behind it... I'm a bit concerned about performance/battery life. I'm hoping HTC will release a device similar to the BlackBerry 8700/8800 running Android (with no camera!).

That seems very similar to a lot of apple design things - cover flow, the address book, etc.

Seems ok, depends on who jumps on board.
To be honest, I'm surprised by all this movement in the cell phone market, I thought it was a mature segment at this point, but with the iphone garnering lots of excitement and other companies now playing catch up Google may be on to something.

The next few years are going to be incredibly exciting for the cell phone industry; I'm convinced of that. Thanks to the iPhone, of course.
Dear God...look at the Address Book icon:
Looks a bit close...

It appears that they copied a number of elements from apple.

Don't forget to turn off web history. Imagine all those dorks at Google on their beanbags going Nazi on your person info. Google should do what an all information eating company should do and let us see what their employees are doing online.
