I bought a kindle fire he when they ran a sale awhile back. Just needed something for decent internet browsing on the couch and to read the occasional comic.

Serval spray could rightfully be classified as a banned chemical weapon under the Geneva convention. I moved into my new office today, and my cat (the 3/4 serval) doesn't like the new digs. Within a few minutes he sprayed in a corner of the room. After a lot of industrial cleansers, and airing the place out for a few hours, the smell is just now starting to be tolerable again. He's never done this anywhere before, to my knowledge, so I'm not sure what triggered it now. I often bring him to work, but that could end if he keeps this up.

Try a bottle of this:

Bac-Out - BiokleenBiokleen

Pour tons of it on the spot and let it sit for hours.

Today I (re)learned that crowds and me don't get along. I went to the nearest mall with my wife to pick up a couple of things (early Christmas shopping) and it was Saturday afternoon... It did not go well. Way too many "people" with far too little awareness of the rest of the fargin' universe, plus their broods of "micro people" being random and chaotic in a "whack-a-mole" fashion. It was much too weird for me, making me really uncomfortable.

Sooooooo.... The rest of my Christmas shopping (and pretty much everything else that depends on Large Retail Establishments) from now until mid-January is going to be online.

Oh, I also learned that the larger the "family unit" group wandering around a mall is, the less organized the individuals in that group are - in all things. It's like a natural law or something.

Fixed it, thanks. I'm still a bit spun from the experience.

It's called "sensory overload," and I actually treat this sort of thing professionally. It's pretty much done the way other anxiety issues, like airplanes and spiders, are treated. I broke the primary rule though; I dove in without gauging how much my trigger (crowds) was over my tolerance level.

I haven't done this in a long time, but waited outside a store at 4:30am for the special deals. Kind of fun even if cold.

This weekend I learned how to fix a French toilet. Quite painless when you actually know what the pieces are called.

I'm watching a lot of first time homeowner shows on TV and found out that people seem to buy a house for other people, and not for themselves. If the house is not good for "entertaining," then they won't buy the house.

Is that "lock them in a basement and whip them" entertaining or "would you like an olive with that" entertaining.

Although if you know the right crowd ...

Today I learned pangolin tongues attach below the ribcage.

Note, if you use Google to investigate the difference between a pangolin and an armadillo, the top link claiming pangolins are not placental mammals is full of shit. They both are.

The link is correct that armadillo armor is skin covered bone, while pangolin armor is like fingernails.

But... that's a pangolin.

I didn't learn today, but I want to say within the last few weeks I learned there's a 95% chance your immune system will fight off leprosy.

Yes it is. Armadillos are much less cute, but still cute enough that people will pick them up and play with them. The little guys are curious, but not terribly smart; their defense mechanism when startled is to leap vertically (as much as 2 or more feet). That doesn't work so well when they are startled by the large truck that has (so far) rolled harmlessly over them... Yep, that happens a LOT here in Texas.

Oooh... I always recommend a claw hammer for killing people. It will be interesting to see if it works for her.

I mean the second part, where she attempts to convince a jury it was self-defense. The first part obviously worked.

Apparently she ran up >$20,000 in credit card debt without his knowledge (and allegedly forged his name on the applications) and she killed him after he closed the accounts and confronted her with it. Geez.

I had my 2nd ankle surgery today, at crack-of-dawn this morning. Now they have me on morphine, because apparently my drug tolerance is rather high (I blame my RA meds). Wow... I love this shit. It's groovy.

Frankly I would prefer to not have anything like a "drug tolerance." Getting there involves needing pain medications over a long period of time. Nope, no thanks for that!

Cap'n - I hope your recovery is speedy. Did you learn anything interesting about your ankle's anatomy?

I am vacationing in an emerging country. I learned that you can put two food items in bag and keep them separate using some clever tying and cutting(?) of the bag.

I also learned that you can fish using a rod and reel where the reel is separate from the rod and is a circular frisbee thing.

The nurse said it's probably due to being on Lyrica for my RA and the nerve damage to my ankle from the accident.

Thanks. I've learned how much having metal pins suck. Also I think people take for granted just how easy it is to screw up an ankle and how hard it is to get fixed. Once you mess one up it's never the same again. Once those bones in there begin to heal it's a very different process compared to something like the ulna. When I was a kid I broke my arm and within a few weeks I'd already torn off my plaster cast and forgotten about it, this hasn't been anything like that.

Morphine is the tits, though. I can't believe they just hand patients the pump for this stuff, no wonder people get hooked on it. I didn't want to miss the opportunity to get the most out of it, so I've had some Pink Floyd going in my room. I'm supposed to leave in a while but maybe I can extend that for another day.

Kids heal much faster than adults, and adults with RA are going to have MUCH more difficulty healing joint-related anything - especially complex joints like ankles.

Lyrica works interestingly*. It slows nerve signal transmission, which is how it helps control neurogenic pain. But, in more common terms, one of the side effects is that it can make the user "fuzzy" or dull their thinking and personality. Since it operates on neurotransmitter chemicals within the brain, it can cause what is essentially a "tolerance" to the drug - but it can also mute the neurotransmitters that signal various things related to pain. It makes sense that extended use of Lyrica can impact a person's tolerance of opiates. One caution: opiates block all sorts of nerve signals, not just pain signals. This includes the signals to smooth muscles - as in the colon; in simple terms, morphine will constipated the heck out of you. Keep that in mind while you listen to "Time".

*I learned much of this yesterday, as the physician for one of my patients was going over his medications with him, so I looked up the drug to learn more. I already knew about morphine though.

Tell me about it. I'm usually regular like clockwork, after my 2nd cup of coffee I'm ready to go. Not now. Oh well, I'm sure things will go back to normal after I finish this big bottle of Percocet they gave me.

As I understand it, Grey was posted on an open forum that mostly hosted Twilight fan fic, and not even necessarily set in the Twilight universe.

It also took the names of its characters from Twilight, so yeah, it was fanfic.

I left the theater wholly satisfied, and a tiny bit horny. Would very much recommend.
