Homerun king, Henry Aaron has hit his final walk-off.
His stats. Double digit homers every single year of his career, from 1954 to 1976; 20 years with 20+ homers; 15 years with 30+ homers.

I’m surprised this thread hasn’t been swamped with responses.

Hank was more than a great player. He was a symbol.

He started in the Negro American League in 1951, and had to put up with the idiocy of racism of the day. He played for the Indianapolis Clowns (which in itself says something about how the Negro Leagues were regarded) for three months before the Braes bought his contract.

He played in the Braves’ minor league teams, first a Class-C team, the Eau Claire Bears, then later with the Class-A team, the Jacksonville Braves. His amazingly consistent (and awesome) performance as a batter got him plenty of notice, and he was promoted to the (then Milwaukee) Braves in 1954.

He was regarded as a friendly man who took his game seriously on the field. And he stood as an example of personal merit earning a person fame, despite his humility (especially early in his career).

We’re all a little bit lesser because “Hammerin’ Hank” is now playing for a celestial team.

I remember the first time I discovered Indy had had a Negro League team. At first, I was like “Oh, cool local history!” And then, when I saw the name, I was like “Oh, FFS!”

As seen on twitter/heard at the service:

“We thank President Carter, President Bush, President Clinton, President Obama, and President Biden for their kind words.”
