a resedit question...
anyone know where the snapshot (cmmnd-shift-3) sound resource is??
wanna kill it!
(it's so system7...i KNOW when i'm taking a snapshot, don't need a loud "CLICK!"!!)

Well, I'd like to keep it & use it elsewhere. Since I'm not handy at ResEx, is there a not-too-complex way to extract that sound for use? Has anybody already done this?

Yep - grab a System 7 Sound file (SND) - you can get them from within the System File of any modern OS, or export to one from QuickTime. Doesn't matter whats in it.
Open that in ResEdit, and open the sound you want; copy the sound you want and paste it in place of the sound in the file you made (changing the resource ID's so that the pasted sound matches the old one; delete the old one).
Done 
It's now a SND file. You can then export it to whatever you like.

Well, I'd like to keep it & use it elsewhere. Since I'm not handy at ResEx, is there a not-too-complex way to extract that sound for use? Has anybody already done this?
1. make a COPY of your System file (hold "option" & drag it to the desktop, be SURE it makes a new System, and does NOT drag the original System from the sys folder!!!
2. Open the COPY in resedit.
3. Find the "snd" resource, open it. (confirm the sound by hitting cmmnd-T; this will play the highlighted sound).
4 Highlight id -16504, copy it (cmmnd-C, duh!)
5. make a COPY of the app (or whatever) where you want to paste the sound.
6.open that, find the snd resource you want to replace (check it with cmmnd-t).
7.WRITE DOWN the exact file # of that sound, delete it.
8. paste the snapshot sound into this file; it will come up as a default id#.
9. highlight it, do a command-I (get info), should bring up that window.
10. change the default id# to the correct id#. close that window, close resedit, save your changes!
if all goes well, you've got the snashot sound where you want it. you can trash the system COPY, and replace the app with your copy (but save the original of that just in case...)
yo! if you're trying to use the sound somewhere where there originally is no sound, not so simple.
