I am having trouble sleeping (that is human sleep, not putting my powerbook to sleep) because the LED on my new 15" Powerbook is so darn bright (I own flashlights that are dimmer).
Anyway, this is my biggest and only complaint so far with my new 15" PB (just upgraded from a Rev A iBook). I am pretty sure I know the answer but will ask any way...is there any way to dim/disable the sleep LED so that I can sleep? Right now I put a bunch of crap on my desk immediately in front of the light in order to sleep(not to mention that I also unplug the computer as that LED is also brighter than I like)...I was just thinking that it would be nice if there was a better hack. I miss the days of my Powerbook 140 and no LEDs.
Peace,
O

Close your eyes? Sleep facing the other way?

Cover your PowerBook with a piece of cloth, like a t-shirt?
[works for me]
Put dark sticky tape over the LED?
Use a dark marker pen and paint the LED?
Put the PowerBook in a bag?

I've noticed that if you put the PB to sleep with the screen open, the LED is less bright that when sleeping with the screen closed. Have you tried that ? Sometimes it is so dim I can barely see it ...

Another vote for the cloth method.
The green pulse of my sleeping iMac DVSE used to light up my whole bedroom back in the day, too.

I'm sure that sorts that 'light thing' once and for all!

I find this works.
Put the powerbook to sleep and ensure the lid is tightly shut. Holding the Pb firmly in both hands along a short edge, bring the bottom of the case into sharp contact with your forehead using as much force as possible (grunting helps deliver maximum impact energy).
You should find that both sleep problems are now fixed. You will wake up in the morning after a long refreshing sleep and as a bonus you should find that the powerbooks pulsing light has gone out as well.

Hey, I would have thought that you would see an even brighter light that way... you know, the one at the end of the tunnel...
To the original poster - you are not alone with this. I too find it to be amazingly bright, but fortunately it doesn't bother me.

Send me your powerbook and I'll send you one back that won't light up at all. It won't bother you at all while you rest
