Hi,

I recently moved DSL providers - and had to change a few sites DNS to follow.

However - I'm not sure that the changes have stuck yet...

Can anyone reach the following URLs?

http://www.monkeyfood.com
http://www.maxwellscott.com
http://www.diggory.net

I updated the DNS on Monday - so they should be up..... But people keep telling me they're down.

Sorry, all seem to be broken: No. 1 "No such host", the other two get time out errors.

Nope, not getting them. Having four ws in the first URL does not help the look up process, either. If Mac users have been the only ones without accessibility it may be that darned persistent DNS cache that I had to deal with a week ago.

Thanks everyone - they appear to be correctly set-up - so it must just be caching...

The odd thing is that these changes were made on Monday - which is more than 72 hrs ago - I would have thought that at least one of you guys' ISPs would have fetched fresh DNS details since then....

Maybe it has something to do with my IP addresses only being allocated recently.

I assume everyone can reach this IP?

it can take 1 to 3 days for DNS servers around the world to load the new DNS info, the cache usally has a life of 24-72 hours.

And no it cant find the server at that ip address

Cant ping it either

The router just went down : (

I have a horrible idea that the shiny new NetGear router I bought is far worse than my ugly 5-year old Lucent cellpipe (which never went down.)

I don't understand why I can reach the net from my server - but it cannot be reached from outside...

e.g.:

Sorry - - this has probably turned into a networking thread.

It does look like a networking thread. And it looks like your server is behind the NAT function of the router instead of in a DMZ. Start a thread on Networking and tell us how the Netgear box is configured.

Assuming that your Netgear router is configured similar to the way mine (FVS318) is - go to "Ports", click in "Add" and configure the service you want to provide for each particular machine (HTTP, FTP, etc.)

Also, unless you know exactly what you're doing and/or have a real need for this, I wouldn't recommend making any of your machines DMZ servers - you could just as well not bother using a router in the first place (protection-wise, that is).

Unless they run OS9, of course.
