I've been staring at the 12 piston calipers(over carbon fiber rotors) for a few minutes.
Only $3/gallon to operate this bad boy.
You probably don't get much out of your gasoline investment at 217 mph though.

even better than the images is the article. ooooh, i'd love to drive, or even sit in, a car going 200mph.
come to think about it, i'd rather be passenger, i'd probably die if i was driving that thing.

Saw one of these yesterday driving around the big MB dealer in the Denver Metro area. looked fancy and expensive. Had no idea what it was (other than an MB) until I went to MB website to see wtf it was! So, how much does one of these cost? Didn't see a price online...
edit: $452,750. Well, I guess I won't buy one after all

You'll have a better time in an AMG SL anyways. Or a Brabus SL.

Yeah, the Merc people got in the way of the SLR, they should have just let the McLaren folks go nuts. Then there would have been fun.

Except it can mean either a benz, or it can mean a slammed 50's mercury or something. Benz is unique and more specific.

Yeah, it's not very sophisticated or refined. It's very very brash. In fact, according to the top gear article, it's a complete bitch to drive. But. Whatever. It's kinda badass that way. The exterior isn't really what makes me like the car. It's this:
Too much tire, over 650hp (detuned to help cooling, it's made over 1000hp), and a curb weight of 2100lbs. Supposedly it'll do 0-60 in under 3 seconds, and hit 124mph in under 9 seconds. Top speed over 224 mph.
It's going to be one of the fastest best performing street cars on the planet. It's just brand new, so you aren't used to realizing how badass it is yet.

It's bleedin' hideous. I hate this "headlights going halfway up the hood" thing.
Guess I'd better order an XJ before someone screws that up too.

Actually, he's Quebecois*. *He thinks Quebec shouldn't be part of Canada anymore*
So, you'll have to get a car from there.

Have you seen a CLS in person yet?
The car is stunningly beautiful in real life, IMO. One of the absolutely nicest cars currently in production, and definitely the nicest Mercedes-Benz of the last 30 or so years.

Not yet. But I really don't like the headlights in that photo. (nor the crease down the side, nor the side windows to side metal ratio).

Just manufacturing in Canada doesn't count. Many German cars are manufactured in the US or somewhere else. But nobody in his right mind would e.g call the BMW X5 an American car, just because it's build in Spartanburg, SC.

Dude. The X5 is an SUV designed for lazy stupid people. How is it NOT american? Last time I checked BMW wasn't real keen on the SUV craze in other countries, America was the sole reason it was built.

It's still a BMW, and therefore, German.
Otherwise, let's start considering a Honda Civic or Accura an AMERICAN car

I said: "They make some mighty fine cars in Canada by the way". I never said there was a Canadian car manufacturer. The Chevy Malibu is made in a Canadian plant that has the highest efficiency rating for a car manufacturer in the world. The Malibu is a very high quality built car.
The CAW is a very good union to be a member of also.
But back on topic: I like the [i]Benz[/b] except the front end. The head lights look too "Japanese" to me.

Um, no.
The BMW X3 was 2nd-ranked in the Euro SUV market in August 2005, right behind the Toyota RAV4, and ahead of the Nissan X-Trail, with the X5 coming in 4th.
Your argument is like saying that last time I checked (in like 1950), Telefunken wasn't real keen on the TV craze; America was the sole reason they built them.

Your opinion is just that. Your opinion.
Analogika debunks your opinion with fact and you curl into a ball and cry "big, stupid and ugly" in the corner.
why didn't you quote his facts instead of just "Um, no"

Dude. Regardless of how it was ranked according to god, jesus, JD power, whatever, the point is is that BMW was not producing BMWs until recently. Why? Because the SUV trend went crazy in America. Hence, BMW, catering to american desires, produced their first SUV (not sure if they did one decades ago) for the American market. Does it sell in europe? Sure. Is it a good vehicle? That's debatable. But all I'm saying is regardless of who designed in what country and what country it was built in, it is definitely a design that happened because of AMERICAN TASTES. Hence, it's sort of an american car, it is NOT smaller, more fuel efficient, and generally a more intelligent nimble vehicle like the majority of europe's cars.

...and yet another worthwhile thread derailed by the unsupported ramblings of the same person time after time.
Doofy: Yeah, the crease is arguably wierd, and of course everybodys (ahem) got an opinion, but I will say I was VERRRRY surprised at how the windows that look wierdly small from the outside are huge on the inside. The last place I worked, our company cars were Benzes and whenever I'd take the S 500 in for service (which was too damn often, but thats another thread) I'd take a CLS in trade. That car feels HUGE on the inside, even tho I'm tall, and the windows arent noticeably different. A lot has to do with you eing so close to them that perceptually you really only see glass unless you have some freakish peripheral vision.
However, I'm more a fan of the Brabus megaCar that Kim, the fatt tub o' goo that wins the Gumball every year developed. 5.8, based on the S 500...nifty gear inside.
http://www.megacar.com/photos/
oh yeah, the CL3000 is pretty nifty too.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. But I don't reckon I could live with the exterior looks of that model. Of course there's the "if you're sitting in it you don't have to look at it" thing, but hey I have to park it on the driveway!
I guess I'm just an old-fashioned fuddy-duddy when it comes to car design (well, when it comes to anything really!)... ...needless to say I think Bangle and his ilk should all be shot. I used to gauge my favourite car by the one I liked the looks of most... ...now I gauge it by the one I dislike the looks of least. Sad but true.

Actually, it's quite different from virtually every American SUV, in that it's actually DESIGNED that way, much like the Cayenne/Touareg.
US SUVs are typically just an obsolete truck frame with a braggart shell stuck on top - one of the reasons they're so stupidly unsafe.
Apart from that, I doubt that your reasoning is all too correct. The SUV craze started in America, yeah. So what? People here don't buy US SUVs, because they are unsafe pieces of crap, and because over here, we actually have to PAY for gasoline. So the X5, Cayenne, and Touareg are decidedly European - at least with regard to safety. The people who drive them are usually not too concerned about gas prices.
