umm.. are you serious? hahaha that company is the oldest "five and dime" filter maker in the industry. the quintessential embodiment of cheap effects. no one in thier right mind would use alien skin filters on anything they worked on if they considered themselves an artist.

seriously, a lot of that stuff is not overly impressive. many of the effects it does I would do in 3D rendering before I even bring it into photoshop, or could do in potoshop with moderate ease...

Although I will confess, the first set (textures) looks like it could be handy as far as creating grayscale bump/diffuse/specular maps for 3D texturing. It's seems (from the examples) almost like a fractal-noise generator.

in earlier versions of photoshop their filters were handy, but now that photoshop has integrated more filters, not sure I'd bother.

Remember when embossing text meant 10 steps? now just click the setting.

If I had to choose something to add to photoshop i'd choose a masking filter or something.

(edit: now that I've checked the site, some of the nature filters might come in handy, if used subtly)

You mean like extracting a matte (ie using green/bluescreen)? Heh, thats almost like a business in and of itself, right? I mean, look at Shake.. granted it does a whole lot more than that and its with motion pictures.

Anyway as far as plugins go I believe Photron's Primatte has a photoshop version. Pretty damned expensive though IIRC.

But if thats not what you meant this post is completely meaningless...

Their office is close to here, does that help your decision at all?

It's hard to see any serious designer having any need for Eye Candy. I can achieve nicer effects more easily with the built-in tools.

Now what I'd like is a nice 3-D transformation plug-in.
