My daughter has a late-model AL PB (1.5GHz 15"). She had it out of the country for 6 months: about a month ago she reported a powersupply failure. Now that she's back, with a replacement PSU here for her, I can't get her battery to charge. If the AC power is removed, even the system clock loses track of its setting, which worries me futher. Don't these computers have litium batteries to store stuff like that???

When I press the battery's test button, one LED blinks rapidly for a few seconds.

The menubar battery status pulldown cannot show charge time: it is always stuck on "calculating:.

I have reset the PMU and PRAM. Are there other steps I can take, or should I replace the battery?

If the battery is charging but then you push the battery indicator button and the light only blinks I would think that the battery need to be replaced. I have that same model too and I am looking for a battery replacement. As for the clock resetting I that is handled by a small lithium ion watch battery on the motherboard.

But here is the thing- its a little early for that little battery to go. So I really think that you may have a malfunctioning charger.

That'll depend on the revision and how well the battery has been looked after. If it is one of the first version 1.5GHz 15" AlBooks, the battery could be over 3 years old and if it has been repeatedly discharged and recharged it could have gone through its useful number of charge cycles.

I would download coconutBattery 2.5.1 - MacUpdate

How many charge cycles has your battery been through and what is its maximum capacity.
