I got into a Mac vs. PC argument today and for some reason the guy wanted to know what kind of "puny" forums the stupid Macs had so I showed him MacNN and it's enormous amount of posts. He was silented

Just wondering, are there forums that are bigger than MacNN? Usenet doesn't count. They don't have to be about PCs.

Ars Open Forum is bigger than this forum.

VW Vortex (already mentioned) is huge.

I think [H] is about the same size as this board.

It isn't as big as AOL, but IGN's forums used to be huge (I don't know every since they started that insider crap). The boards over at Gaming Age are respectably big. The GameFAQs Baords are always lively, too.

IMHO, size doesn't matter. Quality of discussion is paramount for me. That quality goes down every time I see another "iDVD and FireWire DVD-R" or "EyeTV Vs. Formac Studio" topic started.

My favorite spot doesn't report member counts, DealMac. Next is MacNN, then AppleInsider, then Apple's Discussions site.

Anandtech is kinda big. Around 100K registered users. They've written a couple articles about their forum and web servers. Pretty interesting. I gotta say, I can only remember their forums going down once since the move from ubb a few years ago.

There used to be a forum called Delphi that was huge. It was more of a meta forum though. Their interface was so unbelieveable bad though. I guess the discussion groups on lycos and yahoo, etc. Don't count either.

MacNN is very small compared to lots of forums. I know www.tournament.com has singular forums which have more posts than the whole of macnn, and 1 post in that forum every 30 seconds. For the whole website, probably 1 post every 4 seconds.

If you include meta-forums, ezboard claims over 10 million, including playing host to the PlanetGameCube forums.

MacNN is #39 on BigBoards, behind (possibly most notably) Neowin.net, a Windows-oriented site.

The funny thing about Neowin is that in their icon/wallpaper/theme forums, the majority of the ideas are trying to mimic OS X in one way or another.

edit: that's #39 in the Computer-related section

There are 45654 registered members. Of course, about 50 of those are old Ca$h aliases from way back when .

As for post and thread counts, you can add those up yourself from the front page.

As for the posting rate, I honestly have no idea.

Neowin, although they USED TO BE Window-oriented, has tilted ever-so-slightly towards the Mac a bit. It's small, but growing.

I don't think Slashdot quite qualifies as a forum. You can comment on posted stories but there are no forums like this one there (thankfully).
