Has anyone got any idea as to the power consumption of the G5 Powemacs, i.e. difference between Auto and Highest? Is it that much of a difference?
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

I posted about this a ways back and the consensus was that there is a marginal increase in power use, but the benchmarks bare out that the speed increase is worth it.

UnixMac:

I searched the forums and couldn't find your post....

Do you have an idea of what we're talking about here in terms of watts drawn by an idle machine with Automatic vs. Highest?

I forget the exact figure, but I recall the draw was mainly in the CPU and it was about 10% more. The resulting performance is however more than 10% in many cases.

My theory is if I'm paying upwards of $8000 for a computer system, this is not an area I want to save on. I only use the Automatic on my PB in the battery mode, that's it.
