My sent and Trash were really taking up lot of icloud and hence laptop OS space, so I deleted all emails in sent and trash folders. (I'm on IMAP)
Guess what happened?
Everyone who I sent an email to, that last email I sent them, the text for that email was discarded / deleted, even though it sent ok the day or days before.. WTF is this?? Can anyone explain that?

Your "Sent" mailbox is where all the emails you've sent are stored unless you've moved them to another folder.
What did you think was going to happen when you deleted them?

I think he's saying the last email vanished from the recipients' systems as well. After it had been received.

thanks guys, actually ...
So one of my best friends replied to an email I sent him with question mark. What I wrote him the day before was not there!
Then next day, I noticed that in Mail, you see above --Mail staggers the whole conversation above. So if a client sends an email, "I'm interested in..."
I reply, "great, please call me".
I noticed my replies were gone. Usually they are there. So it's worrisome. Hard to desccribe. But what I'm saying is what I replied or wrote in threads vanished.

yes, mail can thread conversations showing what both of you wrote, but you deleted your replies. It is not deleting anything out of your friends' actual emails (quotes and such).
Kev: Want to go to a movie?
Pal: Sure!
Kev: Want to go to a movie?
Kev: What time?
Pal: How about 6?
Kev: What time?
Pal: Sure!
Kev: Want to go to a movie?
Your sent emails are red. Your friend may quote you in his reply, those are safe because they are in his inbox. You deleted the red ones.

ANDI, Thanks.
You are saying whatever I wrote they received and will receive even if I'm on IMAP, and I deleted everything from my sent folder before they opened the email?

If it’s “Sent”, the recipients have it. Whatever you do with it, they still have it.

Yep. IMAP is your own, and yours only. It is designed to synchronise your mailboxes across your devices, and your devices only.
