I think I have a file association problem. Whenever I donwload my 401(k) statement in QIF format, the resulting icon that appears on my desktop is identical to a QuickTime file. When I try to import in Quicken, the downloaded file isn't even displayed in the dialog box. How can I fix this? I'm new to Macs and don't know where to start?

When prompted to save the file, save it without the .qif extension. This way it is not associated with Quicktime. You will still be able to import the file into Quicken without the extension.

You have to change how your browser handles downloads. You have to change the helpers section on how it handles *.qif files. I believe that intuit has a post on this on its web site. Im at work and the details are at home. Ill re-post with the specific details. Hope that this is of some help.

I'd appreciate the link. I upgraded primarily based on my belief that I would be able to import my brokerage and retirement accounts.

Try this link: http://intuit.com/support/quicken/faqs/mac2/2353.html
The FAQ is "Q: Why can't I import the personal financial transaction file into Quicken that I downloaded from my financial institution through Internet Explorer?".
This worked for me.
