Hey, im having a little trouble keeping line in working all the time, seems to only work if im using some recording software. Does anyone know how to make it work continuously? I cant seem to find anything on it.

audio devices
lower left: "source" --> external mic/line in
the "direct" check box must be clicked for direct play-through, otherwise monitoring will only be enabled by recording software.

i cant seem to find a "direct" checkbox, the only checkboxes available are "mute" and "thru" but they are greyed out... something i missed maybe?

the "mute" is on the right hand side - that is your OUTPUT section.
the "thru" is what you're looking for in the left-hand column.
I get three lines at the left when I select "External mic/line input": M, 1, and 2.
The "M" line includes a "direkt" checkbox (German system; I assume that this is the "thru" checkbox).

How about system prefs>sound>input. Choose line in for sound input. Will this work?
