Ok, I just want to save time going through a million posts and web pages and just want to get a simple straight forward answer. Will the new MacBook pro's be able to play old for-mac games(with the mac symbol on it)? How about pc games like half-life 2??

The Intel-based Macs can run almost all existing Mac OS X software, including games. They'll have to be recompiled to run at full speed, but they'll run. The different processor will not make the new Macs run software written for Windows — that's a difference of operating system.

Yes, you can play most (all?) "old" PowerPC Mac games through Rosetta.

You can't run Windows games unless you can run Windows on the Mac (no one has done it yet) or someone makes a very good port of WINE to OS X.

Keep in mind when considering the above posts that the MBP no longer has the "Classic" mode, so you'll only be able to play OS X compatible games.

Do your homework before you post: this question has been covered by just about every discussion of the product anywhere.

Besides, why didn't you just look at apple.com? http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/intelcoreduo.html explains software compatibility.

Games like Doom 3 and World of Warcraft are screaming on the MacBook Pro and iMac Core Duo after being recompiled for intel processors (probably because those games were originally designed with x86 processors in mind, not PowerPC). I think the MBP will prove to be an awesome portable gaming machine.

Also, even though someone will probably be able to hack XP to work on the MacBook (it uses BIOS instead of EFI) Windows Vista uses EFI so when it comes out you will be able to install it on your MacBook and run windows games if you choose to do so.
