I bought a Umax Astra 6400 firewire scanner over a year ago but Umax, of course, hasn't and probably won't support it under OS X. I hear that Image Capture under 10.2 now supports scanners. Does anyone know what scanners are supported, particularly mine? I hope it is. I use VueScan right now and it works well but I'm not that crazy about the interface.

The only drivers that 10.2 will include are for Epson scanners. You're out of luck for that Umax. And I'm out of luck for my HP.

I thought the 10.2 Image Capture worked with any TWAIN-compliant drivers? Is that not true?

HP just introduced a new set of scanners (Scanjet 3700 and 3750). Both of these scanners are listed as being OS X compliant. The 3750 cost about $150.

Vuescan works with the 6400, but it is slow, dog slow, get up and get a cup of coffee slow. What's the point of a firewire scanner that performs like USB.

I am thinking of getting a SCSI card for my 533mp, so that I can bring home the old computer that is now connected to the scanner. Currently the scanner is connected to a G3 233 w/9.2.2 and photoshop with the Twain driver from Agfa.

Curious and hoping ?!

Thanks,
