No, what's sickening, ie: tiresome, is that he makes every frakkin post/thread about his love life. WE DON'T CARE. If you did it, I'd say the same thing. If Colin Powell did it, I'd say the same thing. If the Pope did it, I'd say the same thing.

Have you ever thought of anger management courses? Or just not being an ass hat? Both would probably be good for you.

I think she was hot then, and is hot now. To each his/her own.

Someone put up shots of every cast member and lets all do a rating game. (I'm far too lazy to find all the pics and set that up)

Despite my earlier doubts (at the very start of this thread), I put my fears aside, and overall really enjoyed the series... I even did a 1-4 BSG recap session last month. I get the plot, I get the theology, I appreciate the nuances. However...

Can someone for the love of Cobol tell me how 'All Along The Watchtower' became a plot device?!?!?! Talk about suspension of disbelief! As much as I love Dylan, and the Bear McCreary version in the shows, really, I mean... wtf.

It is kind of like Mal Reynolds in Firefly spontaneously breaking into a chorus of 'The Man In The Long Black Coat' or 'Voodoo Chile' or something. Really, I *so* hope there is a good explanation for it all...

OMG I have it! Bob Dylan is the 5th Cylon! :O

There is nothing to get. It's just another glue-sniffingly brilliant decision made by the show's producers/writers, but one the crosses your personal line for excusing it.

As you said, you understand the plot, the theology etc, well this is just more of the same. Some people still pretend to think there is a coherence, but they are of the same crowd who would have claimed the emperor had any clothes on.

Don't try to think. Don't try to explain. There is no answer, just cocain-addicted writers.

It's an issue which stems from the limitations of film and TV: there is no way to show interior monologue. Writers use a number of devices to get around this, from voice overs to having characters see things no one else can see to trippy montages, etc. Had BG been a written piece, there wouldn't have been any need for music. The characters could've described their compulsion or feelings without revealing it to any humans. But in a visual medium you need something concrete to imply one or more characters are having an experience unique from most others. In that episode, the writers chose something completely out of context wrt the series (yet something anyone watching would understand) to show us those four were having an experience completely outside that of the rest of the crew. In this sense, the particular song isn't important. What's important is the song is something completely alien to the BG universe.

Perhaps the reason that the 12 colonies share so many similarities with earth culture is because that is where the final 5 originated from and they have been unintentionally influencing the 12 colonies for a loooong time.

Somewhere--and I don't remember where now, having read umpteen billion BSG blogs in the last two weeks--there's confirmation that Moore wanted it to be Manhattan. Apparently he sent back the early renderings because they looked too much like modern day Manhattan and not enough like post-apocalyptic pretend Manhattan.

And I know the dude you linked too works on the CGI, but he loves BSG a little too much.

AFAIK the 13 colonies idea (rather: 12+1) comes from the fact that the producer of the original show is a mormon (who believe in a 13th `lost' tribe etc. etc.).
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I see. Thanks for that.

I assumed that since the whole system of government and laws (superficially) is like the US system that the writers of the new BSG were going to tie this with US history as well.

So it's a mormon thing. Is the 13th tribe in mormonism somehow tied to America? I don't know anything about that..

Yeah. The Book of Mormon is about a group from the tribe of Manassah who separated from Israel and came to the Americas (with Earth being equivalent to America in this case, I guess). They're never called the "thirteenth tribe," but the idea is the same.

(Incidentally, in the Bible there are 12 sons of Jacob and 12 tribal kingdoms, but one of Jacob's sons counts as two tribes when it comes to land and another son doesn't get any land at all. So there are kind of 13 tribes anyway, but it's never counted that way.)

Looks ok to me. Sure it is no space action Battlestar but they said it would be more low key and concentrate more on the characters.

I do like the look of it though, looks all orange and 50's like Gattaca did.

Ok, I finally caught up. I was literally a season and a half behind.

To sum up:

Awesome show.
Voodoo needs to stop bitching about a show he hates.
I called "New York" before they even got there.
It's interesting that the world was in ruins. Will Cylons and Humans learn from the mistakes of the 13th tribe?

It's weird, I thought it looked interesting. Not great, but potentially intriguing. The only part that bugs me is that "Our family name is Adama!" Seriously? You're going to put a guy telling us his last name in the trailer?

No, see Guiding Light aren't pretending to be anything other than the mediocre soap they are.. I applaud them for that.

What is special, regarding BSG, is that there seems to be a small but vocal subsection of people who can't accept that the emperor has no clothes.

Suck it up. If you like it so much, why don't you explain your fanaticism towards it in stead of just acting out in a fanatic way. Because there isn't anything to mention?

Good drama? Nope. (it's at Guiding Light levels)
Good acting? Nah. (generally better than Guiding Light... not always)
Good writing? Hahahaha.
Good music? Nopes.
Good SFX? Yes and no.. the built scenery is about as advanced or expensive as it was in ST:ToS and the computer effects which are completely separate from the rest are ok. Their averageness is hidden by quick camera movements and unstable footage. Smart.

I say again, the vitriol from some people here gets more and more amusing when every new episode and every new announcement regarding BSG confirms what I've said all along.

The atrocious sci-fi writing is explained with the fact that the apes making this think they are delivering a 'message' and at the same time making a serious drama, when all they are doing is a day-time soap scheduled at night with some spaceships. This is further underlined with the Caprica trailer and the interview with the not-so talented 'actor' Bamber.

Indeed, the emperor has no clothes.

Yeah, I think it's time to ignore the trolls.

Especially the ones that completely ignore the fact that BSG was nominated for an Emmy and bitch about the writing.
