I'm a bit of a minimalist and trimmed my menubar down to MenuWeather, LastFM, SMCFanControl, TimeMachine, iStatMenus (CPU and calendar/clock), and SpotLight

BTW, I'm transcoding a gazillion exercise vids in HandBrake and running Windows in VM so I'm running near max CPU usage on my MacPro.

I like minimalism but I feel I need some apps up there (MenuWeather, SMCFanControl, ClanXAV Sentry, iStatMenus, etc.). I think you can get rid of the spotlight icon if you'd like...if you feel it's cluttering up your menubar

Yeah, Broomstick lets you do so –actually, it is hiding Dropbox on my system– but I love Spotlight. I love how fast it is, how it can preview any document… Spotlight is there to stay.

I understand the need for some items, I just wished menulets would only show up when needed.

No big surprise, my Dock is on auto-hide.

BroomStick is a good idea but one of the most horribly implemented apps I've seen. Type in the name of the apps in the menu to reorder them? May as well run in the Terminal. Hopefully the author adds a decent GUI as this looks helpful.
