With two or more Macs, I want "one Mac" get all the email, but still being able to check email with the others while leaving the email on the server.

While this does work with any POP-account, I cannot get this to work with the .Mac account which is an IMAP-account.

Can I change this into a POP?
Can I tell an IMAP to leave it on the server, so it will be deleted from the server when email is being checked with the "one Mac"?

According to Mail Help (where Mail is the application Mail in OS X):
-------------------------------------
Retrieving mail using multiple computers
The easiest way to access your mail from more than one location or computer is to set your mail account to use Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP). IMAP accounts allow you to view your messages, but leave a copy of the messages on the remote email server, so that the mail can be accessed from different computers.

Post Office Protocol (POP) accounts require you to log in and download messages to your computer. If you must get your mail using a POP account, and you need to access your messages from more than one computer, you can set Mail to leave a copy of your incoming messages on the mail server. This will allow you to retrieve messages from multiple locations, but will also take up more space on the mail server. Also, messages you've already read and deleted on one computer may appear as new messages when you retrieve them again using another computer.

To retrieve POP mail using multiple computers:
Choose Mail > Preferences and click Accounts.
Select a POP account.
In the Advanced pane, deselect the "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message" checkbox.
After you've retrieved your messages on all the computers on which you need them, you can click the Remove Now button (in the Advanced pane of the Accounts pane of Mail Preferences) to delete the messages from the POP server.

You can change the length of time that Mail leaves messages on the POP server. In the Advanced pane, set Mail to remove downloaded messages right away, after one day, after one week, after one month, or when moved from the Inbox.
-------------------------------------

Here is said that IMAP leaves email at the server. That is not the case with my .Mac account.
Anyone?

Thanks.

Why would you even want to contemplate doing this? POP is absolutely awful for managing mail across multiple machines...

Anyway, if you want to stop messages from being downloaded to your other Macs, go to Mail Preferences (assuming you use Mail - other clients will have similar options) and select the following:

That is, pick the Don't keep copies of any messages option. The mail can be read on those macs, but it will be left on the server.

On the "one Mac" leave it as All Messages and their attachments so that you have a local, as well as a server side, copy on your machine for Backup purposes.
