FireWire iPod to USB Windows peecee? How?

Forget about the no-FireWire complaints, mine is the other way around:
how do I connect a first generation iPod 10 GB to a USB peecee?
I can't find any "converters" or cables that do this.
Do they exist?

First gen iPod only had the nifty FireWire port at the top, and with FireWire I mean FireWire: the one and only FireWire SIX, like we all have on our Macs, not the lousy FireWire FOUR peecees have often enough.
Anyway, the original (First Gen) iPod didn't come with a dock, as there was nothing to dock for

Your best bet, I think, would be to get a FireWire PCI card (or PCMCIA card, if it's a laptop) for the PC.

That's what I told my sister as well: I sold my 40 GB to her, and now she wants to give away the old 10 GB (once mine as well :-) ) to her friend who only owns a peecee without FireWire.
I said it's a three step thing:
1. Open up peecee thing
2. Stick in card
3. Close peecee thing
There is no step four!
Oh wait, it's a peecee:
4. Try to find a driver for the card
5. Install the driver
6. Go back to step 4
7. Try to see if the iPod is recognised
8. Restart peecee thing
9. Go back to step 7

Will a 1G iPod work with a PC without additional software? iTunes may not support them.

No problem, you only need a FireWire connection.

You've tested this? The reason I ask is that 1G iPods would be Mac-formatted, wouldn't they?

It's an old question, but actually you could simply format the iPod as Windows and then use it: you actually HAD to do this in order to use it.
My sister used this 1gen iPod for some years but now has got the 40 gigger
