Hi, I have a friend who shares a house with some other students. We can talk using gizmo/skype and IM using ichat or adium, with no problem. When we try to use ichat for voice or video, it sits there trying to connect until it tells each of us that the other hasn't responded.

we both use linksys routers, but I have all the correct ports forwarded to my machine, whereas they have 6 laptop users in their house, several of whom want to use ichat video or similar.

I'm guessing that it's a port forwarding problem that stops us connecting but if they forward the correct ports to their machine, would it stop anyone else being able to use the same apps?

I figure this can't be that unusual a situation and would appreciate some idea of how best to set up the port forwarding in this situation.

Many thanks,

J.

You can only forward a particular port to one computer on the network. In order to forward a port to more than one computer on a network, the application in question would have to support 'triggered maps". See: http://www.practicallynetworked.com/.../app_ports.htm
