Before I start:

iBook G4
OS 10.4.6
Totally up to date with Software Update

Lately my system has been getting slower and slower. This is in terms of loading finder, launching apps and multi-tasking. I have Cocktail and System Optimizer X, and ran all the maintenance scripts etc. to see if it helped, and it doesn't.

Also, lately I've noticed that some apps are crashing when I try to quit them. iPhoto, VLC, Quicktime, sometimes Safari. They don't normally crash at random.

I was thinking I might have a Virus, as I do use Limewire and BitTorrent. However, that's kind of silly for a Mac. Either way, I don't know what is wrong. I want to know if there's something I can do before I give up and do the ol' fresh install.

Well maybe nobody who has read your post has any suggestions.

Be patient. You're not exactly paying for any advice here anyway.

Geez. With your attitude I'd say you can just about forget getting any help now.

Try an archive and install.

That means 19 people took a look and tried to diagnose your problem for free. Totally justified to to be angry with them.

you should get disk utility to look at your HD (several times). get onyx to do everything. all cleaning and maintenance actions, and reboot your ibook, and immediatly open terminal, and type in top. let it settle for a while, and then copy the output and paste it here.

I apologize for being rude about not getting any replies. Usually if I post something, someone will have some kind of an answer within a few views.

To answer some questions:

512mb. ram
9gb out of 60gb available (probably part of the problem)

I'm going to try and clean out some crap from my HD, maybe make some back ups too. I'll check out Onyx for maintenance. The only thing I still do not understand is why my applications would be crashing.
