Has anyone ever tried tackling the problem? I've just "switched" and miss my bit hacked US International layout (which seems to be missing completely in OS X, even in the standard form) - it allowed me to use the standard US layout with stuff like [] {} <> in places where one would expect them to be, and still let me use the accented characters () of my native language.
