I'm a returner, been using pc's for the last 3 years as main computer.

My current workstation is a dell latitude 8100 series. Which isn't too shabby at all. I've got a 17" PB on order which might ship this year.

I hope my switch is worth it.

Well, I hate the "switch" commercials, so I'd be loathe to identify with that crowd, but the 17" Powerbook will be my first Apple since 1995... IF that damned thing ever arrives.

I should probably add that I'm keeping my Win XP desktop, and plan to keep upgrading along the way, so I'm a "portable" switcher, if you like...

I'd never even considered a Mac before OS X. I'm too addicted to getting down to the guts of my OS. Switched from Linux (with WinXP for gaming).

I'm not a switcher because of any advertising campaign.
Never actually saw them prior to deciding to switch, because I just got a job using macs and fell in deep like with them.

Switcher, yet not due to any campaign, I figured it all out on my own.

-Peace out

I didn't switch because of switcher adds either. I had heard so much good about OSX I just had to try it. I have toiled with linux for years, but OSX brings it all together with strong *nix underpinning and nice GUI on top. I purchased my TiBook 800 about a year ago. Can't wait for my 17".

Although I've had a 75MHz Performa 6200 as a "cool thing to boot up every once in a while and play around" for a while, I've recently finally switched my whole home network over to Macs. My wife has a 15" 800MHz/384MB iMac now and I've got those mentioned in my signature (yeah, I gave up waiting for the PB17 )

Although I've had my small share of problems and OS X does seem to be significantly slower than XP on my last PC laptop (P4-1.6, 512MB), I'm still happy.

As much as a hate the term
Yep, switched here, and I decided to do it before the campain started

I'd been waiting on the funds to get the powerbook for about 12 months, I was originaly going to get a 667DVI (fastest on the block), then the 800, I now type this on a 4.5 month old 1ghz

I switched for the following reasons
1) imho the ppc arch is better than the x86
2) imho the quality in x86 systems is lacking
3) i'm a unix guy
4) i gained a respect for a g4 400 that ran a 1500 user college at a 2.4 load average for 8 months without failing.
5) i got sick of windows, and XP is just a bucket

I'm in the process of converting my sister now, I think she'll have a 12" iBook by the end of the year

I bought my first Mac in June 2002 while on vacation in the U.S. It was much cheaper than buying in Germany. I saved around 500 euros. It was a 700MHz 12" iBook with a combo drive. I soon added 512MB RAM and an AirPort card. After half a year the updated 800MHz iBook came out. I put my first iBook on ebay, because I wanted to have the better graphics for QE. I had that second iBook for a month when MacWorld arrived and the 12" PowerBook was announced. Man, that was the iBook I always dreamed of. I ordered it immediately BTO with everything (60GB/640MB/SD/AP). I love this machine.

The main reason for switching was MacOS X and its bundled application, especially iTunes and iMovies. I was looking for something similar on Windows, but couldn't find anything. Sure there are powerful pro apps like Adobe Premiere, but that was out of scope for what I'm doing with video editing (but maybe Final Cut Express is worth a try). I also like the rock solid Unix foundations, but to be honest, Windows XP is strong in this point, too.

i consider myself a recent switcher but my very first computer ever was a b&w mac classic. anyhow i used pcs after the classic for years until i bought a powerbook w/superdrive last november and i haven't looked back. macs are far superior to pcs although i wish they were faster.

I think we put the Tandy and Leading Edge in self-storage years ago. Probably still there.

UMAX is still home, in a closet.

Wallstreet is dead, which is fine, as it harbors some bad karma (having been owned/used by both Ryan Meader and Rob Malda previous to my taking ownership of it).

Gave the K6-2 (old router) (also obtained, unfortunately, from BLM) to my nephew.

Still have the Athlon 750. When I got the Athlon XP, it became my router (FreeBSD) until its power supply blew and I temporarily made ABS do routing. Got a new Power Supply, but it's still powered off, and I'm still using Airport. Keep meaning to install -CURRENT on it.

Original PBG4 I gave to my sister for her birthday this past fall.

The Athlon XP 1800+ is my current WinXP desktop, and the PBG4 667/DVI will be sold to a friend as soon as the 17" comes in.

1982-1988 Apple ][+
1988-1994 Mac SE
1994-1996 PowerMac 7100/66
1996-1999 Dell Dimension (Pent2-266?)
1996-1999 Dell PowerEdge 2200 (2xPent2-300)
1999-present Dell Dimension (Pent3-1GHz) - kid's computer
2002-present DIY P4-2.4GHz - my desktop computer
2 days from now - PowerBook G4 12" !!!

I thought long and hard about the new Pentium M laptops (I really like the Dell Latitude D800 and the Sony Z1) but I decided to come back to the Apple fold because the 12" is a great size and I had to have the iLife apps. I've got hours of home movies on DV (ripped to the PC) that I need to edit down and create DVD's. I would have liked to get a 17" iMac for that, or the 15"/17" PB with a 20" display, but I think I'll do fine with the 12" PB.

Have been using PC's for past 15 years or so 286, 386, 486, Pentium 1, 2, 3. etc. Now using Sony Vaio WinXP Pro and Apple 15" SD OSX, so I guess I am a not so much a Switcher but more of a Mixer! [hey, did I just coin a new phrase?]

wow, this is sure some interesting stuff. it looks like their was a dead space three to five years ago where almost nobody started using macs. what happened back then. wasn't that right about when steve jobs came back and brought the imac with him? i would have thought that many people joined then.

The reason I'm joining this time is because of Unix based OSX and the PB is just a beauty!

My first computer was a Toshiba (if memory serves me right) laptop in 1990. Two years later (or so) I got a Powerbook 180c. That baby was sweet!

Since then, I've been working on PCs because those are what I was given at work. Now, I'm a consultant who will be working in a PC environment, but there are enough Mac evangelists here that we've found a way to make everything work on Macs. So, I'm getting a 17".

Can't wait!! Well....actually.....been waiting. About 2 months now. But it'll come....

I've used PCs since 1986, followed the DOS-Win world from IBM AT 286 6Mhz (turbo 8 MHz!) to present. Bought my wife a Tangerine iBook 3 years ago, and use it from time to time myself, and troubleshoot problems for her. I'm familiar with the iBook, but OS9 didn't have many advantages over WinXP for me, and the 800x600 screen was woefully inadequate compared to my 24" LCD at 1900x1200 running Windows.

I needed a laptop and bought a TiBook in November, and it's great. If I've kind of been using the iBook for 3 years, do I count as a switcher?

maybe just a "swit" or a "'cher"?
