Not exactly essential, but useful nonetheless (if you have Skype friends or want to use the phone service).
Adium, VLC, SubEthaEdit
search for those on macupdate.com

Oh. Azureus. If you're into BitTorrent. Quite sluggish and proc/mem. intensive, but... it's probably the best.

Really? I recommend Transmission, its an excellent ub bittorrent client that barely uses any processor and shows download/upload speeds on the dock.

I'll bite. This thread will generate obviously subjective responses, but here is my list of the most important freewares to have on a standard OS X install:
CLIX
X Resource Graph
AppleJack (a convenient script if you have to administer multiple boxes and want to run the autopilot)
VLC (to fill in the gaps from DiVX, Flip4Mac, ad nauseam)
clamav (either via Fink or DP)/ClamXav (OS X bundle)

Camino, CamiTools, Flip4Mac, MenuCalendarClock iCal (there's a free version), Onyx, Proteus or Adium, VLC or MPlayer, Stuffit Expander, ClearDock.

But doesn't support giving each torrent specific ratios. I'll use it when it does.

Does Transmission allow you to download only parts of a torrent?

You didn't say which OS (i know, just being a jerk).
But Fetch and MacTelnet were the best. I believe MacTelnet is now updated for OSX though.

It's missing UPnP support and it crashes often for me
But definitely has more potential... kinda like the mac-lite-equivalent of uTorrent.

Isn't Onyx just another one of those "do a lot of mostly useless 'maintenance' things" apps?

APM Tuner X (don't think it can be found for DL any longer.
Really *hate* the click of a parking HD every few seconds without it.

Railroader, I know he's in the wrong here, but you cropping up and calling him a ban-evader in every thread is just as annoying as he is.

It brings it to the mods attention. Sometimes they don't check their PMs and the "report abuse" button is useless.

I'm going to tell!
Ban evader! ban evader!
You are the reason I was banned. They couldn't stand your whining anymore.
What a crying birdhouse maker.
I'd probably wouldn't come around because after awhile one gets bored with the topics here, but as long as you come around, Ill be around.
