IMO, that is what school should be about. But in reality, that is not the nature of the American educational system. In my view, the American school system is more about training than education. Which is why an African-American student can graduate from college in this country and receive a "top-notch education" ... but learn nothing about him or herself or anybody that looks like them other than slavery, Martin Luther King, and Harriet Tubman. But that's a subject for another post altogether!
