A long-standing rumor that the next iPhone -- presumably called the 5S -- will be available in colors beyond just black and white received a boost with the publication of photos featuring differently-colored SIM trays, along with high-rez pictures of various other small parts said to be from the forthcoming iPhone model, expected to be released sometime this summer. Though the SIM tray images would be easy to fake, Apple has been making the iPod touch and iPod nano in a set of colors and may have decided to follow suit with the iPhone 5S -- and perhaps a future iPad.

Should the pictures prove real, it could tip off one the ways Apple plans to make the iPhone 5S more attractive to buyers who have come to see the "S" series as an incremental update on the previous model (as with the 4S or even the 3GS). In addition to the possibility of color options to more clearly distinguish the new model from the iPhone 5, Its also been rumored that the 5S would sport a variety of other, minor improvements; speculation includes a fingerprint sensor built into the home button, a much-improved camera and possibly support for near-field communication (NFC) among other possibilities.

The parts leaked to BGR include a loudspeaker bracket, vibrating motor assembly, ear speaker bracket and Wi-Fi flex ribbon cable along with the SIM trays, which as seen in a silver-gray color and a gold color. Apple has seen its color options for the iPod nano and iPod touch become very popular, though offering multiple color options is often an inventory management nightmare of not having enough of the most popular colors and too many of the less-popular ones.

iPad Mini in multiple colors? Black and white only.

I think they mean "iPod Touch and iPod Nano" in a set of colors...
