Which brings up 2 observations on my part:

Number one that the county I live in does a piss poor job of taking care of roads. The roads are ice everywhere here and they haven't so much as laid sand in the intersections, let alone plow or salt anything.

Number two: Why do cops always seems to drive like they are invincible? This yayhoo could have killed someone.

(sorry, I didn't get pictures for you guys. I don't know how badly the cop was hurt and I thought it would be disrespectful to snap a bunch of photos.)
Being in debt and celebrating a lower deficit is like being on a diet and celebrating the fact you gained two pounds this week instead of five.

My prayers go out to the cop, his family, and friends. My he fully recover.

It's not so much that as, they drive the car like that because they don't own it, or have to replace it.

Take for example the local Napolize Pizza place around here. They have their own delivery trucks. The deliverers drive them like they are stolen.

I did think of you when I thought of taking pictures.

Most police officers don't get the training they need to properly operate a vehicle in "adverse" situations. And since police cars (at least here in the States) tend to be big and heavy, they're harder to manuver at speed.

During my driver's ed class (much longer ago than I care to mention) we had a Michigan State Trooper speak to the class. He pointed out that the FIRST thing the MI State Police do with a new academy graduate is teach him to drive. This in the state that invented the mass-produced car culture... Most police agencies don't have the time or resources to do that.

And as Kevin points out, the police car is not the cop's own car. And it's expendable; if it gets damaged in the line of duty, it's usually written off. So with that sort of attitude, that lack of training, and the frequent impression some cops have that they are superman, it's kind of inevitable that they're going to have some wrecks.

I'd just like to see my own local police follow basic traffic rules while not running in emergency conditions. Little stuff like turning into the correct lane, signaling lane changes and turns, coming to a complete stop at lights and stop signs...it makes them seem stupid when they ticket someone for a violation that they just committed.
