My base model mac book won't boot after a failed security update, the 2006--004 one. It just plays that sound when I press the power button and is stuck at the apple logo with the spinnig thing under it. What can I do?

look in the manual... there are all kinds of key combinations you can hold down while booting to try to make it work.

as a last resort, boot by holding the power button down until the light flashes and beeps... it might boot but if it does you'll enter the netherworld of 1ghz land...
