The rest of mobile phone users may have e-mail eventually, but only if other cellphone makers get the zero-config ease of the iPhone e-mail setup down.

I.e. NEVER for the mainstream.

(Lots and lots of mobiles already do e-mail, but nobody ever bothers setting it up because it's such a pain.)

Bingo. Lots of phones support it but like you said it is such a pain to get going and so ugly and useless when you do nobody bothers.
