I've looked around, but could not find anything on this (so if i've missed it I am sorry)

I am running 10.5.3 on my Powerbook G4. Ever since it was released I've been having major issues with file transfers. It doesn't matter on the size of the file I am copying to my powerbook, it will crash and end up doing a hard restart. Using wireless, or not, it will crash. I am copying files from a Mac running 10.4 Server (i have 5 HDDs in it). I know there is nothing wrong with the files and whatnot (i can copy to my iBook G3 with no freezes at all)

The PB is running a clean install of 10.5 (i cleaned the HDD when I first installed 10.5 after it was released.

Anyone else experiencing the same issues? Or is this just one of the many 'features' i've heard about with Leopard that will cause me to revert back to 10.4?

Thanks guys and gals!!

How long between your clean install of 10.5 did you upgrade to 10.5.3? Maybe something you did in between those two points (or something a poorly-behaved extension did) has messed things up for you. Perhaps an Archive and Install from your DVD, followed immediately by an upgrade to 10.5.3 will help.

I did the clean install the day it was out. I've upgraded every time they were available (moving from 10.5.0-->10.5.1-->10.5.2 ect..)

This problem has started the moment 10.5.0 was up and running. I know this because I was moving some of my files over from my server back to my PB and it just kept crashing (the screen dims and you get the multi-language restart screen. I've been hoping with every system update it would fix the problem, but no such luck. I've even pleaded to Apple in the comment section of the crash reports.

But I am willing to try an archive and install back to 10.5 then do the point 3 upgrade right away and see what happens. Can't do that till i get home from work in about 6 hours.

Can you open Console and see if there's any crash log?

I will post one when I get home... The problem is very reproducible (at least for me) so it shouldn't be a problem.

As a side note...
Other than when I copy files over a network.... the system runs almost flawlessly.

I say almost because my dock started acting strange ever since upgrading to point 3... active applications do not appear in the dock-i keep my dock empty and only use it to show me what apps are running but that is another topic i have not yet posted!

Thanks again for the help guys!!

Alternatively, you could download the combo updater from Apple and run the installer for that. Sometimes that fixes even the tiniest issues.

Good luck with that; hopefully you won't be reporting back with more issues after that But as always, post the crash report if you do!

Well here is the update...

I did the combo update back to 10.5.3 and started transferring my files over the network... over 10 gigs and no freeze-up!

I'm going to keep it running and see what happens and i'll report back with a crash log if it should tank again.

Thanks guys!!
