Redbox and Verizon's collaborative effort for online video streaming,
Redbox Instant, is shutting down. October 7 marks the service's last day, with refunds issued to current customers on October 10. Any kiosk credits owed may be used before 11:59PM local time on October 7. Unaffected by the change is the actual Redbox service, which will continue as before.
Customers were able to register up to five devices with the service, including those running iOS and Android, Samsung TVs with Smart TV capabilities, some makes of Blu-ray players and the Xbox 360. Streaming through a browser used Microsoft's Silverlight browser extension. At its peak, More than 10,500 titles for streaming were available, with the number having dwindled since January of this year.
