How are they any different from the current Star Trek TOS on DVD that are currently out?

I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

Oh, apparently they are re-releasing the originals all in one box set with extras.

I'm a big fan, and the originals shows are great, but I'm not going to pay $15 for 2 shows like they would want every loyal fan to do.

I calculated it to be $400+ or something for the entire three year series.

Well, each box will contain an entire season, so that should mean that it will be alot cheaper than before. Other than that I don't know.

If they are priced like the other series, I am guessing a whole lot more then that! I wanted to get ST:TNG, but at $70-80 a season, no way!

Very cool!

However...

mine looks about like this:

Not bad either huh? And it's not only TOS but TAS, TNG, VOY and a big piece of ENT too...

BT is sooooooo cool!

(no, that's NOT British Telecom)

That is just because the special effects were severly lacking compared to todays cgi stuff. Most of the acting was much better then current shows.

Meh. I never found TOS episodes particularly engaging, regardless of the special effects.

Enterprise is a classic example of how good CGI can't make up for bad everything else.

Most of the acting was much better then current shows.
I reckon Patrick Stewart was/is the only Trek actor who could actually act.

Hmmm...

The current two-episode sets come in 40 volumes; list price $20 = total of $800; street price $15 = total of $600.

Three box sets would be list price $150 (Play.com lists them at 85 pounds UK, or $150) ... total of $450, or street price $100 = total of $300. So the box sets would definitely be cheaper if you want all the episodes.

Me, I might pick up maybe four of the two-episode sets, just to get the best episodes, since the quality of TOS was pretty uneven. $15 x 4 = Total of $60.

But: the only info I can find on the new box sets is Region 2; they wouldn't release them R2 only, would they? After all the two-episode sets are R1 only, so it would make sense in a twisted kind of way.

[edit: After further research on tvshowsondvd.com, it looks like the season sets have been confirmed for U.S. release but not officially announced.]

Enterprise is the bomb! At least the special effects are cool.

The Enterprise eps I've seen have all been cringeworthy. I feel bad for Bakula every time. He was so cool in Quantum Leap!

I'll second that... I just don't think they made a good mix. It's like having a bunch of OK actors, but nobody to pull it all together.

That's why TNG did so well, you had a few good actors to pull the rest along...

close... with the exception of TAS which are .mpg, they are all .avi the physical disc's are plain old data CD-R's.

I play them on a hardware divx player attached to my 16:9 loewe tv. Pretty Good Picture too! Maybe not totally up to dvd standards, since most are TV-rips, but hey, where only talking star trek here...

Wouldn't be the first time.

As a promo for DS9, UPN handed out tribbles at BART stations. I picked up my gray tribble at the Berkeley Bart station. Its not as big as the ones on the show, and it doesn't make pleasant sounds, but it is still pretty cute.
