Hard drive icons hideable?

i want to stick my hard drives in my dock and have them not show up on my desktop just to make everything look cleaner. is this possible? besides makeing them the same color as the desktop and renaming them with spaces i mean.

Finder Preferences > Show these items on the Desktop: uncheck Hard Disks.

Or you could use Deskshade ( Deskshade), which will not only "cover" your desktop thereby hiding the hard drives, but also has many more functions. Check out the site for a download link.
