Hey all,

I'm going to be getting a shuffle for my brother for his birthday, and I would like to have something engraved on it. He's a math teacher and I was thinking of putting the quadratic formula on it as a kind of joke, but I'm running into problems with Apple's engraving previewer.

Has anyone ever done special characters in the engraving? Ideally I would like it to be:
x=[-b±√(b²-4ac)]/2a

but it can't do a square root sign. I tried doing:
x=[-b±(b²-4ac)-²]/2a

but I can't get the negative to be superscript with the two. Any ideas?

Oooooh. Quadratic Formula.

Remember that the square root of X is the same as X^(1/2).
I've seen the carat (^) to indicate exponents.

I'm a bird. I am the 1% (of pets).

You might consider the equation instead: exp( i pi ) + 1 = 0

It's more laser-engraving-friendly, and it's generally hailed as one of the most beautiful equations in mathematics, uniting five of its most fundamental quantities.

I recommend the liberal use of spaces for clarity: exp(_i_pi_)__+__1__=__0

Or spend a little extra and have a local person do the engraving.
