How well does it run using bootcamp and running it under XP?

How well will it possibly run under OS X ? (Aspyr is developing the port due in May)

What about on Powerbooks? {EDIT: Macbook Pros]

Is it better to just use a desktop Mac Pro instead?

Lastly, how are software developers doing PC game ports even surviving now that XP can be run on a Mac?

what macbook are we talking about here?

apple hasn't made powerbooks for a while. they can't even use bootcamp.

it's always better to use a desktop machine for games.

It will run, but not well. Better under XP (the Mac version is effectively emulated), but still not great. Mac Pro is a much better choice.

when it comes to games, integrated graphics are not your friend, especially with only 144mb of vram.

mac pro with an 8800GT will play it silky smooth. with an x1900xt it'll run pretty damn well also, i'd imagine. i haven't tried the game, but my first generation mac pro with x1900xt plays team fortress 2 beautifully at max settings 1600x1200, so that's something to go by at least.

lol...I know, I know...I have been wanting to buy a Mac Pro, but my friend from intel has convinced to wait for yet 1 more cycle before I plunk down $3K, he says it will be more worth the investment.

I play COD4 on my MBP (2.2GHZ, 2GB, 128MB)...full resolution, medium options and texture settings. It plays great, and I win my fair share of matches with it...

I was actually wondering about this very thing. I'm an avid gamer (COD 4, TF2 and WOW are my staples at the moment...whenever I have time, which isn't much), and have a great PC I built that I was planning on reverting back to just for gaming. I'll be buying a MBP in February, so it is encouraging to hear that it runs that well.

Yep, TF2 is also runs well at very decent-looking settings. Haven't played WOW.

I have a first gen MBP 17" the one that comes with a CD, and I've been playing:

1. HellGate
2. Bioshock
3. Gear of War
4. Crysis
5. COD 4
6. Madden 08'

All games play very nice at medium settings with omgeadrivers as my GPU drivers. Dare I say smooth as butter and this is on a lowly ATI x1600.

A newer MBP with a better GPU would be a really nice portable gaming solution provided the right drivers were used.

So the choice is yours as to wether you want to stay tied to a desktop then get the MP, but if want the freedom to move about and still have a decent gaming machine then get the MBP.

My current rig is in my sig, I've got a 23" ACD that I attach when I'm at home and games look nice on a bigger screen as well.

We'll see...maybe I'll grab both as a demonstration of my fervent fanboyism for this game. hahaha. (I already own the xbox 360 and ps3 versions).
I need at least one b/c it's too much of a hassle to drag my ps3 home when I'm having dinner at the parents' house and have a free hour or two to kill.

I followed your advises and trying the demo through bootcamp on a MBP 2.33 with the ATI X1600 and the omega driver and it plays very well. 50fps on average, not so bad with settings in the mid-high range, Anti aliasing X2, when you consider that this card is not the best for recent games, it's allright. It's good enough to feel the intensity of the action, and the quality of the graphics.

I didn't overclock the card, since i'm pretty satisfied with the FPS as they are. Do you guys think it's could make a big difference? And I'm a bit scared that overclocking might make my MBP overheat...

don't overclock the card. the last thing notebooks need is more heat, and the gains aren't even noticeable.

i have a radeon x1900xt and i've tried overclocking it. overclocking it a mere 40-50MHz made it really unstable. i had to tweak the fan settings up a notch just to keep it from crashing. and when i benchmarked it in team fortress II, i didn't notice any difference in frame rate.

the 1xxx series of radeon cards just aren't OC friendly.
