Well as of today, I've turned off my PC for good so I'm 100% switcher (12" PowerBook). No going back. It's a bit scary but lots of fun.

Anyways, my needs: to be able to do quick cutting, simple fades, and to place track markers in wav files so that I can burn CDs with multiple tracks from a single audio file (a DJ mix for example).

What I was using on my PC: In the distant past I used Cool Edit 96 and Soundforge. Then I transitioned to wavlab which I never loved, but the track markers and burning worked relatively well.

Is there anything in this territory for OSX that's freeware, or very cheap shareware? I don't need a lot of functionality, just something that works intuitively and quickly. Recommendations most welcome.

Cheers.

P.S. For the record, I did a search.

I am not at ALL sure this is what you're looking for, but look at Amadeum II. I know if will give you the the markings, etc., because I used a demo of it last week for that purpose. I don't know about all the rest, though -- what you need is way, way outside my area of knowledge.

Another suggestion -- look on version tracker, in the "audio" or "multimedia" (or similar) categories. That probably will help you find what you're looking for, if it exists.

Good luck, and welcome to the club.

I'll check that one out. I looked through the entirety of version tracker's audio section and saw a couple apps that addressed audio editing but nothing that mentioned track markers and such.

Roxio Toast Titianium ships with a little side app called Spin Doctor that will allow you to add markers to long aiff files. (It's mainly used for converting vinyl albums to CDs but I think it will do what you want it to.
