Can I use any USB memory card reader or ram-based usb drive on my Mac without installing any additional drivers? MacOS X of course. Just checking in case someone bought something that didn't work

Do you mean 'pen drives'? I think they are pretty much work with no problem. I have a Lexar 128MB drive and it works great.
Not sure about card readers.

So far I havn't seen any USB Flash drives that don't work with Mac. However, there are certain brands of card reader that I've seen personally that only works with PCs.

Here's what Apple says about card reader compatibility. I noticed they removed some models because my SanDisk card reader isn't listed anymore (and it's certainly supported.)
